Kimilili constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Didmus Barasa has lashed out at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over his media absence in the past few days.

Taking to his official X account on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, Barasa claimed that Gachagua’s brief moment of defiance has faded away.

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) lawmaker accused the former DP of spreading rumours and propaganda against President William Ruto.

According to Barasa, Gachagua now faces the reality that elections are two years away and has now stopped peddling what he has termed as lies about the president, from one platform to another.

The controversial lawmaker further argues that Gachagua has been tamed, humiliated, and sidelined to his rural Wamunyoro residence by nature.

“Former DO @rigathi‘s brief moment of defiance has faded. After spreading rumours and propaganda against President @WilliamsRuto, he now faces the reality that elections are two years away. No longer able to peddle the same lies from one platform to another, he’s been tamed, humiliated, and sidelined to his Wamunyoro residence by nature,” Barasa wrote on X.

Gachagua’s Wamunyoro meetings

After he was ousted as Kenya’s second in command, Gachagua turned his Wamunyoro home into a strategic political centre which he has been using to chart his way forward.

Gachagua spent a better part of his Easter weekend interacting with grassroots leaders drawn from Meru County at the Wamunyoro home.

In a statement on Saturday, April 19, 2025, Gachagua noted that the meeting presented an opportunity for him to share insights regarding his expected party launch in May.

Gachagua further informed the leaders of the plans made so far ahead of the launch.

“This morning, I had the immense pleasure of hosting grassroots leaders from the land of my mother—Meru County—at my Wamunyoro residence. They brought with them warm greetings from my relatives and the vibrant community back home, a reminder of the deep roots and strong bonds that tie us all together,” Gachagua’s statement read in part.

“Their visit was a crucial opportunity for us to share insights and updates regarding the launch of our new political party. I was grateful to brief them on the preparations we have made thus far, highlighting our commitment to representing the aspirations and needs of our people,” he added.

On March 27, 2025, Gachagua announced that his party would be launched in May. He said the party will field candidates for all positions to send the ruling UDA party packing.
