Kioni sides with Orengo against onslaught over his stance

Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has sided with Siaya Governor James Orengo, who is under siege for his strong political stand.
A section of political players have recently sustained their onslaught against the first-time governor over his firm stance on the broad-based government arrangement.
Despite the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) signing a pact with the ruling party, United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Orengo has not shied away from criticising some of the ills of the government of the day.
His strong political stand has put him at the crossroads with allies of the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, with professionals from the region threatening to push for his impeachment.

Amidst the debate, on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, Kioni took a side in the battle, standing firm with Orengo. The Jubilee Secretary General condemned the coordinated attacks, arguing that they were meant to cow the outspoken governor.
He, however, maintained that Orengo’s stance ever since is widely known, and the ongoing dalliance between President William Ruto and Raila will not compel him to betray his conscience and virtues.
“Coordinated attacks on Governor Orengo won’t rewrite the truth. You can accuse him of other things, but never double-speak. On matters of governance, his stand has been clear and unwavering. The busybodies can continue barking, but the train has left the station,” Kioni stated.

Threats to impeach Orengo
Orengo was put on the spot after he called out a section of ODM leaders over what he termed as psychophancy to the government.
His sentiments did not augur well with Nyanza professionals, who accused him of sabotaging his party following their newfound bromance, joining the list of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, who are largely considered opposers of the new arrangement.

Nyanza professionals organisation dubbed the Ramogi Professional Caucus, reiterated that the community (Luo) is united behind the Ruto-Raila pact for development.
“We want to tell Siaya Governor James Orengo that we are not happy with his remarks at Oduor’s burial on Saturday. As a community, we are united and fully support the broad-based government. This is the only way we can ensure we develop economically. We cannot be in opposition forever,” Joshua Nyamori, RPC Chairman, stated.
“If he continues like this, we will even impeach him,” Polycarp Ochilo, a member, added.
