Police in Murang’a have launched a manhunt for a man who is believed to have hacked to death his two sons in Mugwanyoni village, Kiharu constituency.

Evan Kang’ethe, 28, is said to have committed the heinous act Sunday afternoon before going into hiding.

Kang’ethe reportedly sent a text message to one of his cousins telling him he had killed the children Samuel Irungu, 7,  and Briton Mwangi, 3, in his house.

The cousin called Kang’ethe’s mother telling her to go and check if the children are safe but she was scared because the man had been acting weird for the past few weeks.

“I called close relatives who were at home and we went to his house only to find lifeless bodies of the two boys” said Ann Njeri, Kang’ethe’s mother.

The two had their throats slit but were in separate rooms.

The man is said to have had a dispute with the wife and she ran away leaving behind the children and they have been under the care of the father.

The mother says the son has been behaving in a weird manner, hurling insults and threatening to attack them.

Kahuro Deputy County Commissioner Patrick Muli while confirming the incident said police have launched investigations into the incident and appealed for calm among the locals.

The bodies were moved to Muriranjas hospital mortuary.
