Kenya’s Group A opponents in the 2024 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN), Zambia, landed in the country on Saturday, August 2, 2025, ahead of their engagement in the continental games.

The team was received by Zambia’s High Commissioner to Kenya, Alfred Musemuna, who praised the several football enthusiasts in Kenya who showed up to welcome the team.

“The Zambian community in Nairobi rolled out the red carpet for the Chipolopolo as they touched down at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Saturday night. Despite the chilly temperatures of Nairobi, a host of energetic young Zambians, largely students, lit up the atmosphere as they joined some energetic Masai warriors to display the gravity-defying acrobatic dances indigenous to Kenya,” a statement from the team FA read.

Support

“We are very happy to see fellow Zambians; we commit ourselves to support you in whichever way you desire,” Musemuna said.

“My friends and the Zambian community are more than ready to give you whatever support you desire. There is no other gift that you can honour us with other than taking this trophy back home. We have agreed with the host country, Kenya, that they will be supporting us, but the only challenge will come when we shall meet them.”

The team under former Chelsea boss Avram Grant will play in Group A alongside hosts Kenya, DRC, Angola, and Morocco.

The 2009 bronze winners will kick off their campaign on Thursday, August 7, 2025, against DR Congo before facing Angola three days later.

The match day three fixture will be against Morocco before concluding with a tasty tie with hosts Kenya on Sunday, August 17.

Speaking on behalf of the playing unit, Kabaso Chongo said the players were motivated by the warm welcome from the Zambians in Nairobi.

The country’s Football Association vice president, Mutale Ng’andu, also thanked the Zambian mission for the warm welcome and support.

N’gandu said the team would work hard to ensure that they reciprocated the support with positive results.
