World Cup trophy lands in Kenya next week

Plans to welcome the FIFA World Cup trophy to Kenya are in top gear as the country prepares to receive the most coveted sporting trophy on May 26.

The first phase of the world’s coveted trophy tour kicked off in Dubai last week and is expected to cover 22 countries between May and June, four of which are in Africa.

The African leg of the tour will kick off in Ethiopia where the trophy will be on display for two days between May 24 and 25.  The trophy will be in Kenya on May 26 and 27 where football local fans will get to view it before moving to South Africa from May 28 to 30. It will then return to Tanzania where it will be on display between May 31 and June 1.

The plane carrying the trophy is expected to land at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport next Thursday at 11:00am and will be received by various government and corporate officials. 

It will then be moved to State House where it will be officially received by President Uhuru Kenyatta who will hoist it on behalf of Kenyans.

Official sponsor of the trophy tour Coca Cola said that on Friday, May 27 there will public display of the trophy at the KICC all day where the public will get a chance to view the trophy.
