World Championships: Malkia Strikers call for support ahead of Vietnam clash
Kenya’s women’s national volleyball team, Malkia Strikers, have called for fan support ahead of their Wednesday’s final Group G outing against Vietnam at the 2025 FIVB Women’s World Championships in Thailand.
Malkia Strikers are yet to register a win at the ongoing World Championships after losing their opening fixture to Germany on Saturday, August 23, 2025, and going down to Poland in their second group outing on Monday, August 25, 2025.
The two back-to-back group defeats automatically denied the Malkia Strikers a chance to proceed at the tournament in Phuket. However, despite crashing out of the competition, the team have taken to their social media pages, calling for moral support in their final match on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.
Reflecting on Malkia Strikers’ defeat to Poland on Monday, head coach Geoffrey Omondi said that he was not satisfied with the results against the European giants, adding that the team are left with no choice but to win the remaining match against Vietnam.

“Bagging a set from the third-ranked country is indeed something, but I would have wanted a better result. I really wanted to win the fourth set and force a fifth set, and who knows, we would have won the match, but unfortunately, it didn’t turn out that way. At least we have tomorrow to rest and recover ahead of the Vietnam match on Wednesday,” Omondi said.
“Vietnam plays a fast game, and so we need to be at our best if we want to win against them. There has been great improvement from the team, individual brilliance, teamwork, and coordination, and so we just need to extend the same in our next match. We lost to Vietnam during the international friendlies, but we look forward to returning the favour,” he added.
Poland coach Stefano Lavarini acknowledged that Kenya gave them a run for their money.
“Just as I had mentioned in the earlier interviews, Kenya was not a pushover, and that’s exactly what we experienced today. We struggled all through, but I’m glad we were able to contain them and win the match. They are a physical side that can pull a surprise,” said Lavarini.
