Vihiga Queens, Gaspo maintain tempo in Women Premier League

Vihiga Queens FC skipper Janet Mora’s 20th-minute goal andSharyline Opisa’s 70th-minute effort against Nakuru CityQueens FC on Saturday ensured that the slim lead at the apex of the Women Premier League continues at least for another week.
The defending Champions won 2-0 against City Queens to move to 22 points in the table standings after 10 matches albeit after two losses thus far in the campaign. The game played at Mumias Complex was evenly contested for long periods of the game and they were times the visitors had their moments and the home team was exposed.
As for City Queens, they maintain fourth place with 17 points after 10 matches with a +8 goal difference. Thus far, the Rift-based side has won five times against three losses and is still alive in the running for the title.
Meanwhile, Gaspo Women FC saw off Wadadia FC 3-1 at GEMS Cambridge Grounds in Nairobi. The home team had their goals via Anna Nabwire in the 19th minute for what was the only goal in the first half. It was all systems go as Gaspo got two goals in 11 minutes.
Emily Okute got the second in 64 minutes and Valentine Kwaka also had her effort in the 75th minute. The consolation for Wadadia who are seventh in the table came in the 84th-minute courtesy of JacklineChesang against the run of play.
The win means Gaspo keep up pace with 21 points and is on second off 10 matches.ElsewhereThika Queens FC also proved their mettle with a 5-0 demolition of bottom-side Kayole Starlets FC at Thika Stadium yesterday.
Red-hot striker Wendy Atieno had a hattrick in the game in the 19th,28thand 81st minute as the hosts completely dominated the opponents.
Grace Wekesa had opened the floodgates for the home team with a third-minute effort with Sarah Chalovu also getting on the scoresheet.
The Queens are joint second with 21 points and a joint goal difference of +19 but have conceded more over the same number of matches between them and Gaspo.
In the Western Kenya derby, Trans Nzoia Falcons FC beat Bunyore StarletsFC 1-0 away courtesy of a Linda Kihara effort in the 39th minute.
That was a good remedy for strugglers Falcons who only managed their fifth victory in 10 games and are now off the relegation zone with 13 points in the bag and currently eight on the log. Starlets retain fifth place with 15 points.
