Kenyan midfielder and CF Montréal player Victor Wanyama is back at Harambee Stars.

This was announced by Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Sports and the Arts The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder announced his retirement from international football in September 2021, after 15 years of service for the Kenyan national team.

Wanyama left Kenya’s senior team after making 71 appearances and scoring seven goals.

His last Kenyan goal came in the 3-0 victory over Ethiopia, which assisted Kenya to qualify for the 2019 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

His last match for Harambee Stars was the 2021 AFCON qualifier away to Comoros which Kenya lost 1-0.

Wanyama holds the record of becoming the first player from his native East Africa to compete in the English Premier League, making his debut in 2007 at the age of 15, coming in as a substitute in a friendly match against Nigeria.

He gained prominence for playing with his older brother MacDonald Mariga before the latter retired.

After Dennis Oliech’s retirement in 2014, Wanyama was handed the captaincy by former Harambee Stars coach Adel Amrouche.
