Hrambee Stars football icon and the CHAN Kenyan ambassador Victor Wanyama has termed it an honour to be associated with the 2024 African Nations Championship games as a brand ambassador.

In a statement on Monday, August 25, 2025, Wanyama, one of the three ambassadors for the tournament, expressed his excitement and high expectations for a memorable African Cup of Nations experience, fueled by the enthusiasm of fans during the ongoing championship.

The African Cup of Nations will be hosted by Kenya in 2027.

Ambassador

“It’s a good feeling, first of all, for CHAN to be hosted by all three East African countries, and it is an honour to be the trophy ambassador. I am grateful,” Wanyama told CAF.

He also lauded the selection of East Africa as the co-host of the eighth edition of the games, terming the massive fan attendance in Nairobi as a fitting preparation for the AFCON 2027 championship.

“The tournament has been really great with the way CAF has organised everything from the teams to the supporters,” Wanyama said.

“It has been an electric atmosphere in Nairobi with full stadia and so many fans flocking in to watch football. This is a great moment for us, and it shows that there will be bigger things to come in 2027 when the AFCON comes here.”

On August 1, 2025, the former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder presided over the launch of a pristine new trophy in Uganda.

Trophy reveal

During the colourful unveiling of the Pamoja Bid, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) affirmed that the new themed silver and gold trophy was a symbol of passion, unity, and African pride.

“The new trophy is more than silver and gold. It’s a symbol of passion, unity, and African pride,” CAF stated.

The trophy arrival comes as the country remains abuzz even as the tournament nears its end, after the quarterfinal games concluded on Saturday, August 23, 2025.

Semifinals

The tourney’s action is set to resume on Tuesday, August 26, 2025 with the crucial semifinal fixtures taking centre stage in Dar es Salaam and Kampala.

Madagascar, who eliminated Harambee Stars, will face Sudan in Madagascar in the first semifinal clash as Senegal takes on Morocco in Uganda’s Namboole Stadium for the final berth in the coveted.

Action will return to Moi International Sports Kasarani Stadium on Saturday, August 30, for the ultimate clash to determine the new champion of Africa’s homegrown talent.
