Veteran golf player Henry Maina,83, (pictured) floored a strong field of 235 players to emerge top of the Mashujaa Day edition of the Karen Country Club .

The handicap 14.1 golfer carded a round of 67 points, beating fellow club-mate David Nduati on count-back, to clinch the competition’s Division A category winners’ prize.

It was an exciting moment considering the veteran defied age, physical constraints and also a stiff competition to claim the ultimate gong.

In the Division A Nines challenge, John Mutua and Anthony Gacheru were the stars in the first and second nine after scoring 32 and 31 points respectively.

In Division B, junior Munene Mutakaa defied all odds to emerge the champion after carding a round of 64 points, three more than his closest challenger Caleb Ndege who scored 67 nett points.

Ken Mwangi claimed the first Nine winner’s prize after scoring 32 points, while Lucy Gakinya’s 31 points were enough to earn her the top prize in the Second Nine.

Meanwhile, David Mambo claimed the gross winner’s top prize on count-back, having carded a round of 76 points.

At the same time, Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) Company Secretary Allan Njoroge was the guest winner after scoring 67 points on the day.
