Ulinzi Stars hand Shabana’s Pamzo first loss as Bandari, Kariobangi Sharks share points

Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo registered his first Football Kenya Federation Premier League loss with Shabana following a 1-0 defeat against Ulinzi Stars at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay.

The loss comes after a promising start with a 5-2 win over Nzoia Sugar in the same venue in their previous game.

Meanwhile, Ulinzi grabbed the lead when Masuta Masita found the back of the net in a sublime fashion.

There was a chance for Tore Bobe, but goalkeeper Michael Wanyika was able to stop a strike by Ezekiah Omuri.

A vital, quick intervention by Alex Masinde helped Ulinzi Stars not concede with Shabana piling pressure on them. Brian Michira found himself in a good position to score, but Masinde’s block was all the away side needed to avoid conceding.

A late chance for the National Super League champions to equalise came late in the first half, but again they were denied by Wanyika, who cleared a shot by George Onyango.

Changes that saw Wycliffe Mutua and Mathew Tegisi, who scored a brace against Nzoia Sugar, could not, in the end, deny Ulinzi Stars a slim win.

Bandari, Kariobangi Sharks draw

At Mbaraki Stadium, Bandari and Kariobangi Sharks shared points following a 2-2 draw.

The Dockers would have taken an early lead when Umaru Kasumba found himself in a one-on-one situation with Sharks’ goalkeeper, Sepstianos Wekesa, who pulled a save to keep the score goalless.

Sharks took the lead in the sixth minute when Patrick Ngunyi struck to stun the home side and their fans.

Bandari goalkeeper Joseph Ochuka, who was outstanding in their last game, made a mistake by spilling the ball from a shot from Eric Mata. The ball fell in the path of Ngunyi, who slotted home.

Abdalla Hassan had a number of chances to equalise for the Dockers, but he could not find the back of the net with three superb opportunities just before the half-hour mark.

Sharks’ defence experienced a moment of concentration lapse just before the hour that allowed Kasumba to score for a 1-1 draw going into the break.

Mohamed Barisa and Shasiri Nahimana came on for Bandari as the second half began, and this rejuvenated the home side, who attacked with vigour.

Nahimana scored the second for Bandari, as he finally managed to beat Wekesa, who had denied them on a number of occasions. Sharks, however, kept fighting and, in the 82nd minute, scored the equaliser through Wasambo.

Meanwhile, KCB and Muhoroni Youth shared points following a goalless draw at Thika Stadium.
