Ulinzi Stars confirm death of Starlets’ coach

Ulinzi Stars Football Club have confirmed the death of Joseph Wambua Mwanzia, who was Ulinzi Starlets head coach.

In a moving tribute, the Football Kenya Federation Premier League side praised the coach, who was fondly named Klopp in soccer circles.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the untimely passing of our beloved sisters Ulinzi Starlets Football Club head coach, Joseph Wambua Mwanzia.

“He was more than a leader on the field; he was a mentor, a guiding light, and an inspiration to everyone in the Ulinzi Starlets family and Kenya football fraternity.

“Under his leadership, the team achieved incredible milestones and fostered a spirit of unity, resilience, and passion for the game. His dedication and commitment to excellence will leave an everlasting impact on the lives of the players, staff, Kenya football fraternity, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

“We extend our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and all those touched by his remarkable legacy. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

“Rest in peace, coach Klopp. You will forever be missed, but your influence will live on,” the statement posted on Friday, September 20, 2024, on Facebook read.

FKF also joined the soccer fraternity to mourn following the demise of the successful tactician.

“We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Ulinzi Starlets head coach, Joseph Wambua Mwanza. His dedication and passion for women’s football in Kenya will be greatly missed.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and the entire Ulinzi Starlets team and the Ulinzi Football fraternity during this difficult time.

“Rest in peace, Coach Mwanzia. You have left an indelible mark on Kenyan football,” FKF said.

Mwanzia had been in charge of Ulinzi Starlets since 2018, and his reign saw the club register success as they managed three consecutive FKF Women’s Cup titles.

He also took charge of Kahawa Queens after early retirement, occasioned by an injury, in 2006.
