Tusker FC drop points as race for league title heats up

Tusker FC failed to ascend to the top of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League standings after playing to a barren draw against AFC Leopards in the week 29 clash on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos.
Despite dominating proceedings in Machakos County stadium, where they rattled Ingwe’s bar twice, Charles Okere’s team contended with a share of spoils for the second time in their recent three games, with the team ceding more ground as the title race heats up.
The visitors’ clear-cut efforts came on either end of the half, with Deogratius Ojok striking the frame of the goal. Leopards striker Christopher Koloti came close for Fred Ambani’s charges with an effort that veered off target.
Simiyu’s disallowed goal
They thought they had won it late after Ian Simiyu’s slotted home what would be the match winner, only for the goal to be disallowed.
Brewers, who preceded their title-contending rivals, Kenya Police and Gor Mahia, to take the pitch for match day 29, ultimately failed to make a showing in a tepid draw.
The draw meant Tusker remained second on 52 points, having played a game more than Kenya Police, while AFC Leopards are sixth with 41 points. The Ruaraka-based side, however, risks dropping down the pile with Gor Mahia due to play on Sunday against Shabana FC.
Kenya Police have a superior goal difference, two ahead of record champions K’Ogalo, who will go top of the standings if they beat Shabana in their backyard and Police fail to win.
K’Ogalo, fresh from sealing a semifinal berth in the FKF Shield Cup games on Thursday, May 1, 2025, head into the clash hopeful of keeping alive their dream of a season double.
It, however, promises to be Gor Mahia’s sternest test yet, with Shabana boasting an impressive record in their Gusii backyard.
Kakamega Homeboy and Bandari lie among the fancied rivals to be put to the sword at the venue, and it remains to be seen how the visitors fare away on enemy territory in Sunday’s matchup.
Shabana vs Gor Mahia
In what should act as extra motivation for the hosts, a win will see them move to a point behind Gor Mahia and squarely in contention for the 2025 title race.
Shabana’s chances could be enhanced further if Ernest Ndajjigirye’s Kenya Police fails to capitalise on Tusker’s slip-up and extend their lead at the top when they host Kariobangi Sharks.
The law enforcers dropped points in match week 27’s league tie against Ulinzi Stars on Friday, April 18, 2025, and seek to regroup and consolidate their title ambition with a victory guaranteeing a further stay at the helm of the standings.
