The Kenya team for the olympic marathon has welcomed the idea of training and preparing together, unlike before when individual athletes trained on their own until the day of the competition.

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games are scheduled to take place on August 10th and 12th in France.

Speaking to journalists on Monday in Eldoret, team captain Eliud Kipchoge said that training together as a team is beneficial since it helps the team to work well together.

“Doing some sessions will bring cohesiveness to the team, and it is good to train together. It actually enhances, builds, and cements the teamwork of the team,” said the two-time Olympic marathon champion.

Former world marathon record holder Kipchoge observed that training has been going well with no challenges in the last month, and they thank God for that.

He added that training together means every day is a new day and a new challenge, with new training and new experiences.

On her side, lady captain Peres Jepchirchir said that preparation has been going well so far, and they thank God there have been no challenges to date.

The 2020 Olympic marathon champion said, “It is good to train together as a team. We have to start teamwork from home so that when we go there, we are a team.”

Coach Patrick Sang said they have met with all the marathoners to check on and interact with them regarding their progress in preparation.

“We are here to check and interact with athletes on the progress of their preparation. Everything is on course, with no challenges, and we are crossing our fingers that everything remains constant,” said Sang.

Athletics Kenya Executive Barnabas Korir said they are happy with the team’s progress so far.

“This is the first stage of briefing with the marathoners. We came to follow up on the program and to know if there are any challenges they are facing, and management is able to settle and answer any questions they have,” stated Korir.
