Silver line for Kenya in women T20 series

Uganda clinched the inaugural Kenya Women’s Quadrangular T20 Series after beating hosts and rivals Kenya in a tense finale by six wickets at the Nairobi Gymkhana yesterday.

The winning captain Concy Aweko was elated with the team’s overall effort said: “I am so proud of my team overall for its great display.

It is not easy to be a leader with so many games and some pressure but we can celebrate. I want to thank the Tournament organizers for doing an amazing job.

All teams gave their all but eventually, we only had to have one winner.

I appreciate the development of our bowling in this competition and it gives us promise going into other big tournaments,” she told People Sport after the duel.

The Pearl nation ably chased Kenya’s first innings score of 80 runs with clinical measurement losing only four wickets in the process.

Kenya’s innings were led by Daisy Njoroge (21 runs off 17 balls) with three boundaries before being dismissed by Evelyn Anyipo and Sharon Juma (12 runs off 10 balls) with a contribution also including two boundaries.

On resumption, Ugandans held steady posting 81-4 with their numbers coming off  Prosscovia Alako (30 runs of 13 balls) with her contribution including three boundaries and a double six. Kenya’s wickets in the innings came through Mary Mwangi (3 Off 4 overs) and Melvin Midambo who picked herself one.

Earlier Tanzania finished the campaign third on eight points after inflicting tournament weaklings Qatar with a 28-run win at the same venue.

Tanzania who won tods selecting to bat first set a target of 130 for Qatar after listing 129 runs for the loss of eight wickets on the board in the opening innings. Captain Fatima Kibasu (30 runs off 29 balls) was the top scorer with his contribution including three boundaries. She was supported in part by the duo of Linda Massage (26 runs off 28 balls) and Perice Kamunya (22 off 22 balls) with two boundaries to her name. Qatar’s chief destroyers with the ball in the first innings were Aisha Mohamed (3 wickets in 4 overs) and  Rochelle Quyn (2 wickets in 4 overs) who helped to slow down for a while the Bongo team.

Qatar on their part posted 101 all out in the return innings with their top batter being  Aisha Mohamed (36 runs off 28 balls) with her contribution including five boundaries. Her support cast came in the form of Shrutiben Rana (16 runs off 26 balls) ND Saadi Dhadwal (12 runs off 22 balls) plus a combined four boundaries to their favour.

Uganda finished the tournament with 10 points followed by Kenya with eight and Uganda with eight points. Tournament-whipping side Qatar left without a single point after losing all matches.

Meanwhile, it stands to reason that you are more likely to be good at something if you enjoy doing it.

Going to work, doing the garden, learning the whamola. You get the idea.
