Kenya’s Harambee Starlets cruised to a commanding 4-0 victory over South Sudan in the 2025 CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship on Thursday, June 19, 2025.

The win extends their unbeaten run and reinforces their position as top contenders for the title.

The game, which saw the Harambee Starlets dominate for the better part of the match, was a showcase of skill, pace, and discipline as the Kenyans outclassed their opponents in all departments.

Fast start pays off

Faith Mboya, earning her first start of the tournament, opened the scoring in the 2nd minute with a composed finish after capitalising on a defensive lapse.

The Kibera Soccer Women forward registered her second goal of the competition, rewarding Coach Beldine Odemba’s decision to start her.

Captain Violet Wanjala doubled Kenya’s lead before halftime, finishing a flowing team move that left South Sudan’s defence chasing shadows.

Midfield maestro strikes

After the break, Martha Amunyolet, who has been one of the tournament’s standout performers, struck Kenya’s third with a fierce drive.

Her fourth goal of the tournament further cemented her impact in midfield, where she has been controlling tempo and linking play effortlessly.

Later in the second half, Vivian Nasaka added a fourth, ensuring Kenya maintained their perfect defensive record with yet another clean sheet.

Title showdown looming

The win pushes Kenya to the top of the table with 9 points, leapfrogging hosts Tanzania, who are yet to play Uganda in their third match.

With three wins from three—Burundi (3-0), Uganda (4-0), and now South Sudan (4-0)—the Starlets head into their final fixture against defending champions Tanzania with confidence. The round-robin format means that Saturday’s match could decide the championship.

The last time the two met in a CECAFA final was in 2019, when Kenya beat Tanzania 2-0 to lift the trophy. Another high-stakes encounter awaits as both teams battle for regional supremacy.
