The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League clash pitting archrivals Shabana FC and Gor Mahia on Sunday, January 11, 2025, will be staged at the Gusii Stadium in Kisii County.

Shabana FC have confirmed the fixture’s venue for the matchday clash through its media page on Monday, January 5, 2025.

Earlier, the home team had reportedly protested FKF’s decision to reschedule the match venue from Gusii Stadium to Kasarani.

Shabana protest

The club argued that the move was made without consultation, adding that it lacked fairness, transparency, and sporting integrity.

FKF’s decision was ostensibly informed by the altercations that marred the same encounter in May 2025, where the stadium was turned into a field of confrontation as fans clashed during the clash that ended with Gor Mahia claiming a narrow 1-0 victory.

It also follows just over a month after another of Gor’s last league encounters against Nairobi United also ended in disarray.

The tie staged at Dandora Stadium turned chaotic after fans collided midway in the tie that ended prematurely with the scorers tied at a level pegging of the one-all scoreline.

Gor Mahia is currently angling for its next league tie against Kariobangi Sharks on Tuesday, January 6, 2025.

The encounter at the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani will be Gor’s first engagement in a busy month where the record champions have to contend with six league fixtures.

Leopards falter

Sharks clash with their own incentive as Gor bid to move to the summit of the league standings after log leaders, Leopards, failed to stretch their lead at the top of the table on Sunday.

Fred Ambani’s charges slumped to a 1-0 loss to Kakamega Homeboyz, surrendering the spot to the Kakamega-based team, now on 24 points after taking to the pitch 15 times.

Gor have only featured 12 times in the league this season and trail the leading pack of Homeboyz, Leopards, and Tusker FC. The Green Army could move to the top with a win, lifting them to 26 points.
