Football Kenya Federation Premier League side Nairobi United has spoken out after a violent altercation in the stands prematurely ended their home league encounter with Gor Mahia on Sunday, December 21, 2025.

In a statement posted on its Facebook page on Monday, December 22, 2025, Nairobi United expressed remorse for the events that unfolded and conveyed condolences to fans affected by the skirmishes.

The clash at Dandora Stadium erupted early in the second half, moments after Nicholas Muyoti’s team leveled the scores.

“Nairobi United Football Club strongly condemns the acts of hooliganism witnessed today at Dandora Stadium during our match against Gor Mahia FC,” part of the club statement read.

“We are deeply concerned by reports of fans who were injured during the incident, as well as those whose properties were damaged
Our thoughts and sympathies are with everyone affected. The safety and well-being of players, football fans, and all other football stakeholders must always come first.”

The club also celebrated its loyal fans who turned up in large numbers to support the team.

“These are the moments we live for. We celebrate you, the true fans. So sorry for the events that followed. Our thoughts are with everyone affected. Let’s keep the passion,” the club’s statement read.

Ugly scenes of hooliganism reared their head once again in the second half, shortly after the hosts equalised.

Ovella Ochieng’s 58th-minute goal prompted confrontations between both sets of fans in a contested section of the stadium terraces.

In one of the videos seen by People Daily Digital Sports, a section of visiting Gor Mahia fans was pictured encroaching on the orange section reserved for home supporters before clashes ensued.

Desperate pleas from the stadium announcer to calm the errant fans fell on deaf ears as chaos descended into anarchy, with rival fans hurling projectiles and objects at each other. Amid the panic, an injured fan was pictured being stretchered off by stadium stewards.

After the disturbing scenes, FKF President Hussein Mohammed took to X to condemn the violent acts after the game:

“I strongly condemn the acts of hooliganism that forced the abandonment of today’s Nairobi United vs. Gor Mahia match. This behaviour will not be tolerated in Kenyan football.”

The FA boss stated that the governing body has opened investigations into the clashes and would soon deliver a verdict.

“FKF has formally initiated disciplinary processes, and the matter is being referred to our judicial bodies for determination. Club and match officials are required to record statements while criminal investigations are being pursued with the relevant authorities,” part of Mohammed’s statement read.
