Shabana edge AFC Leopards in ODM@20 third-place play-off clash
AFC Leopards’ winless run both in the Kenyan Premier League and the ODM@20 Tournament in Mombasa continued unabated after Shaban FC skinned them 1-0 in the third-place play-off match staged at Mbaraki Stadium on Friday, October 10, 2025.
Erick Otieno bagged the all-important goal in the opening half for the high-flying Peter Okidi’s charges to condemn Leopards to a second successive defeat in the invitational tournament.
ODM at 20 celebrations
Ingwe, Bandari FC, Shabana, and Gor Mahia earned invites for the thrilling four-team football tournament to commemorate the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) 20th anniversary in Mombasa.
The Fred Ambani’s charges kicked their quest for the KSh1 million prize money on the wrong footing after losing the first semifinals 4-3 on penalties to Bandari on Thursday, October 9, 2025.
The two sides battled to a stalemate in regulation time.
Gor Mahia overcomes Shabana FC
In the second semifinal, Gor Mahia advanced to the finals with a 4-3 penalty victory over Shabana FC after a 1-1 draw.

Charles Akonnor’s team took the lead in the 38th minute when Samuel Kapen fired a low shot past Shabana keeper Caleb Omondi. Shabana equalised in the 60th minute through Humphrey Obina’s 19-yard free-kick.
The action now shifts to what promises an exciting conclusion as Gor Mahia clash against the home team, Bandari FC.
The clash will kick off at 2:00 pm with the winner set to face an ODM-affiliated squad in a special exhibition match to wrap up the celebrations.
“The winners of the tournament will play an exhibition match with Chungwa FC, which will comprise players from the ODM party and ODM Members of Parliament featuring in the Bunge FC,” the statement from ODM said.
Prize money
For their travails, Leopards did not, however, walk home empty-handed as the club raked in Ksh250,000.
On their part, the Football Kenya Federation Premier League leaders pocketed Ksh500,000 for finishing third.
The four-team knock-out tournament winner will bag a prize of Ksh100,000
