Borabu parliamentary aspirant Morara Kebaso has praised Jubilee Party Deputy Leader and presidential hopeful Fred Matiang’i for what he described as his record on security during his tenure as Cabinet Secretary for the Interior Administration.

Morara made the remarks during an interview with a local radio station on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

During the interview, he argued that Borabu had not experienced the level of cattle theft currently being reported when Matiang’i was in charge of the Interior Ministry.

“What we are experiencing in Borabu is cattle theft. This was not happening when Fred Matiang’i was the Cabinet Secretary for Interior,” Morara said.

The remarks come as Matiang’i continues to position himself politically following his endorsement as the Jubilee Party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election.

Beyond security, Morara criticised what he termed voter manipulation through handouts, urging residents of Borabu to elect leaders based on integrity and performance rather than financial inducements.

“I want Borabu residents to be the first constituency to elect a leader without relying on cash handouts,” he said.

He further alleged that bursary programmes had, in some instances, been abused for political gain.

“I have testimonials from people in different constituencies who are ready to go on record stating that they bought bursaries,” Morara said.

The former INJECT Party leader also urged voters to become more informed, arguing that accountability begins with an informed electorate.

“Politicians often take advantage of ignorance because when people don’t know, they don’t ask questions and they don’t demand accountability,” he said.

Matiang’i has continued speaking on security

Although Matiang’i has not commented on Morara’s latest remarks, security has remained one of the issues the former Interior Cabinet Secretary has consistently addressed since returning to active politics.

Earlier this month, Matiang’i condemned the attack at All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi, saying rising insecurity and political violence risk damaging Kenya’s democratic credentials and discouraging investment.

“All Saints Cathedral is in the capital city of our country. How can thugs beat people in the capital city of our country?

“I don’t understand whether our leaders have a sense of shame. It is very humiliating for our country to see those kinds of things we are seeing,” Matiang’i said on June 17.

He added that political differences should never be resolved through violence.

“Political differences will not end even after the elections next year. We are a democracy; we will always argue and have differences of opinion, but we should manage ourselves responsibly. That is not how to manage a country.”

The Jubilee deputy leader also warned that insecurity could undermine investor confidence and slow job creation.

“Now we are scaring away investors. We are scaring people who would want to put resources into our country. How on earth are we going to generate employment if we don’t manage these things?” he posed.

Security is expected to feature prominently in the run-up to the 2027 General Election, with leaders across the political divide increasingly debating the government’s handling of crime, public safety and political violence.
