Ryan Ogam: Fans asked for money after receiving CHAN reward
Harambee Stars striker Ryan Ogam has revealed that some fans approached him asking for money after the team received their CHAN prize from President William Ruto.
Speaking on a local TV interview on Monday night, September 1, 2025, Ogam said, after CHAN, attention from fans was overwhelming.
“After CHAN, it was a little bit hectic. If you meet someone, they’ll say, ‘You’re a millionaire, send us something.’ Sometimes you just give them a little to finish the conversation because if you don’t, they’ll call you stingy,” he stated.
Ogam said the government’s reward was a significant motivation for the team during the African Nations Championship (CHAN).
“It was a great motivation from His Excellency the President, and I would like to thank the government for that because it really pushed us at some point,” he added.

Focus remains on nation
He explained that while the prize money was a strong incentive, the team’s main focus remained on representing the nation.
“When you think that if you play 90 minutes you’ll be a millionaire, then you’ll really play for it. But for us, it was about the nation and getting the win first. The money would come after,” Ogam said.
The striker also reflected on the overwhelming attention from fans after the tournament.
“When you go outside, people tell you, ‘You did us proud.’ I’ve experienced that and I’m still encountering it. It’s a great feeling and I’d like to do it again and again,” he said.
On how he plans to use the CHAN prize money, Ogam said he has both family and community in mind.
“First, I want to change my parents’ lives and boost their businesses. My mum also taught me that whatever little you get, you should share with orphans, widows and widowers. That is something I’m looking forward to doing,” he added.
