Ruaraka Sports Club had an all-around brilliant performance with the ball and bat after downing visiting Obuya Academy by 58 runs in the ongoing Nairobi Provincial Cricket Association T20 Super Division Championship.
The hosts who won the toss, selecting to bat first, set out a score total of 166 runs for the loss of six wickets in their innings.
Shil Gill was the top scorer for the home side posting an impressive 88 not out from 50 balls on the board with his contribution including five boundaries and seven-sixes.
He was helped in the cause by opening batsman Chandresh Hirani’s 45 runs off 39 balls with his contribution including seven boundaries and a single six before being bowled out by Collins Obuya in the 11th over.
Formidable partnership
On resumption, Obuya were restricted to only a score of 108 on the board. Ruaraka bowlers led by Vishil Patel’s 4 wickets in 14 runs and Pushkar Sharma’s three wickets in seven runs slowed down the momentum of the visitors.
The Obuya Academy batsmen were not given time to build formidable partnerships, thus the quick dismissals by the opposing bowlers.
Obuya top scorer in the innings was Ken Mwangi with 21 runs off 20 balls as the Lavington based succumbed to their second successive loss in the tournament.
In another game played at Peponi School in Ruiru, hosts Stray Lions compounded the problems of Nairobi Gymkhana despite the tight 18 runs win Sunday.
Lions who batted first in the match set a score total of 159 runs on the board for the loss of five wickets. In the innings, opening batsmen pairing of Krishna Katukala (76 runs off 59 balls) and Shem Ngoche (55 runs off 45 balls) steadied the ship well with both combining for 213 boundaries and five-sixes.
However, the Gymkhana bowling duo of Martin Okoth Ndandason with two for 43 runs and Parth Patel with two for 29 runs ensured the numbers did not balloon beyond control.
After the break, Gymkhana pushed hard but were stopped by innings.
The visiting managed 141 runs on the board with Lucas Oluoch (58 runs off 34 balls)-not out, being the main man with the numbers having five boundaries in the process.
Other than that, the other players who tried their best to shore up the digits on the board were opener Harshvardhan Patel (29 runs off 29 balls) and Dominic Wesonga (27 runs off 43 balls)-not out. This was the second consecutive loss of the Forest Road side who fell to the Sikh Union in their last assignment.
