Vihiga Queens confirmed their dominance in the local Women Premier League at the weekend after claiming their sixth title as the season came to an end at the Police Sacco stadium in Nairobi.

The victors put the contest beyond any doubts after seeing off their main rivals to the title, Gaspo Women 2-1 thanks to a brace from Janet Moraa Bundi. They had initially been confirmed as champions last weekend after Gaspo, who led the league for the better part of the season, dropped points in a 2-2 draw against Wadadia.

Gaspo had declared earlier in the week they would not honour the final game of the season before a change of heart on Friday.

And they got a fast start against their rivals, netting a 20th minute opener through Elizabeth Mutukiza.

Vihiga head coach Boniface Nyamuhnyamuh was over the moon after the coronation, saying focus now shifts to the CECAFA tournament that will played in July in Uganda.

“We are extremely happy for winning the title and this is due to hard work, focus and determination and it’s my hope that going to Kampala we will star and qualify for the third edition of Caf Women Champions League to be held later this year in Ivory Coast,” he said.

Vihiga were awarded Sh1 million in prize money by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF).

Earlier at the same venue, Thika Queens thumped Zetech Saprks 1-0 thanks to Grace Wekesa as Kisumu All Starlets gunned down Trans Nzoia Falcons 6-0 at Moi Stadium in Kisumu but the win could not spare Kisumu as they were officially relegated to division one league alongside Kangemi Ladies and Kayole Starlets who gave a walk over to third placed Ulinzi Starlets.

At Mumboha Stadium I Vihiga County, Bunyore Starlets scored a penalty in 54th minute through Airin Madalina which was enough to save them from relegation aainst Nakuru City Queens.

Kangemi Ladies who were already releated gave a walk over to Wadadia.
