Kenya Prisons women’s team retained the Kenya Volleyball Federation league title for the third time in a row following a 3-1 win over KCB during the play-offs final at the Kenya Ports Authority’s Makande Welfare Hall in Mombasa yesterday.

The win sees Prisons qualify for the Women’s African Volleyball Clubs Championship.

Prisons under head coach Josp Baraza proved their worth grabbing the first set by 25-22 before KCB restored parity in the second set winning  25-13.

But Prisons, boasting of three key players in the national team, unleashed their supremacy to clinch (third and fourth) sets by 25-21 and 25-17 respectively, to retain their title.

Speaking after the match, Prisons captain Praxidis Andambi said the team capitalised on opponent’s mistakes to emerge victorious, adding the presence of juniors in the squad brought a lot of energy.

“We have young players in the team who are coming up well. We gave it our best and our focus now is to the Africa Club Championship where we want to represent the country well,” said Andambi.

“We have tried to maintain our strength all through and that is why we have retained the title three times in a row.

Our focus is now on the continental clubs championship qualification and we are hoping we will pull the best results,” said Baraza.

By the time of going to the press, General Service Unit (GSU) were battling Kenya Prisons in the men’s competition match played at the same venue.
