Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) staged a spirited comeback to edge out Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) 3-2 in a nail-biting semifinal clash played on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at the Moi International Sports Centre indoor arena in Kasarani, securing a place in the Kenya Volleyball Federation National League final.

In a pulsating five-set encounter that kept fans on edge, KDF overcame early stumbles to claim victory with set scores of 24-26, 25-23, 23-25, 33-31, and 19-17. The hard-fought win marked a significant turnaround for the forces’ side, who failed to reach the playoffs last season.

KPA started strong, claiming the first set 26-24 after capitalizing on KDF’s unforced errors. But KDF responded in the second set, edging it 25-23 to level the match. The third set swung back in KPA’s favour, putting KDF under pressure once again.

The fourth set proved the most dramatic, as both sides battled fiercely in extended rallies. KDF eventually held their ground to win it 33-31, forcing a deciding fifth set.

In the tense final set, both teams traded leads in a high-stakes exchange before KDF finally pulled away to take it 19-17 and punch their ticket to the final.

Kenya Defence Forces’ opposite hitter Collins Muya was named Player of the Match for his outstanding performance. His powerful spikes and thunderous serves proved decisive in swinging momentum KDF’s way at crucial moments.

The result is a major redemption for KDF, who have been building steadily since last season’s disappointment. Their improved performance has placed them firmly among the contenders for this year’s title.

KDF now await the winner of the second semifinal, which pits defending champions General Service Unit (GSU) against Kenya Prisons.

Sunday’s final at Kasarani is expected to deliver fireworks as KDF chase glory and look to crown their comeback campaign with silverware.
