Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK) were crowned the football champions as the 41st Kenya Communications Sports Organisatiosn (Kecoso) Games concluded in Kericho at the weekend.

PCK collected nine points in football that was played in a league format at Kericho Green Stadium. Communication Authority of Kenya (CA) came second with a similar number of points but inferior goal aggregate.

The mailmen scored 12 goals in total and conceded two while CA conceded three and scored nine with the former topping the standings at the end of the showcase.

CA were declared the runners up after edging PCK 1-0 in the final match on Saturday, thanks to Dennis Oalo’s strike in the 16th minute.

The match was closely contested and PCK should blame themselves for failure to pick a huge win after squandering several chances. Three teams including PCK, CA and Zoo Kericho Kericho were tied at nine points each. However, PCK went home with all the bragging rights as they had pumped in the highest number of goals.

Zoo Kericho was ranked third, Kenya Ports Authority fourth while the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure and Urban Development (Motihud) were placed in fifth position. PCK head coach John Kamau said he was proud of his team for having emerged the football champions.

“The games were tough,” he said.

because each team had its eyes trained on the coveted trophy. Obviously, the win did not come on a silver platter as we had to fight every inch of our way to win the contest,” said Kamau.

Kamau added that they will use the games to correct mistakes going forward in a bid to have a formidable team for future encounters.

On his part, CAK coach Ken Kenyatta said the event served as a learning experience to them.

“We are satisfied with the position even though there are glaring mistakes which we hope to correct,” said Kenyatta.

Kenyatta said he had assembled all the arsenals for the games and the players had put up a spirited fight “but we live to fight another day”.
