Owalo reveals plans to build houses for Gor Mahia players

Newly unveiled Gor Mahia deputy patron Eliud Owalo, on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, disclosed plans to build houses for Gor Mahia players.
Speaking after being confirmed for the new role, Owalo indicated that his primary role would be to help push for the building of the houses, which he argued would also serve the technical bench.
Besides houses for players, Owalo hinted at reviving plans to build a stadium for the record Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) champions.
Owalo detailed that building a stadium and houses for players is part of his extensive ambition to revitalise Gor Mahia to compete with other clubs in the region and continent, including Simba and Yanga.

“Having accepted this position, my primary goal is to bring in fresh impetus with a view to re-engineering, rejuvenating and vitalising the operations of Gor Mahia football club so that we can position it as the biggest and most successful club in Africa,” Owalo stated.
“Primarily, it is to ensure that within the shortest time possible, we facilitate the construction of a stadium for Gor Mahia football club, together with a clubhouse and other attendance facilities such as houses for the players and the technical bench. It is a pity that clubs like Simba, which are supposed to be playing second fiddle, are powerhouses of soccer in the region. We cannot continue like that. We must correct that normally.
“In the not-too-distant future, we must acquire a stadium, a clubhouse, together with other social amenities for this club, including houses for players,” he added.

Professional Secretariat
Besides giving deep focus on improving Gor Mahia’s infrastructure, the deputy chief of staff also proposed the establishment of a professional secretariat for Gor Mahia.
“The other area of focus I want us to work together on in the immediate term, we must ensure that the club has a professional secretariat,” Owalo stated.
“We want a situation where a club is professionally managed, where even club members can raise concerns and give suggestions with a view to strengthening the operations,” he added.

Scouting
At the same time, Owalo explained that he would be keen to work with the new management to sign quality players. He stated that Gor Mahia has the capacity to bring in quality players of the calibre of Khalid Aucho and Meddy Kagere, who lit up the league during their time.
“We would want to see a situation where, at the end of the season, we bring in quality players. I would like to see Khalid Aucho, Godfrey Walusimbi, and another Meddy Kagere, and we have the capacity to bring in such players.”
