Gor Mahia unveil Eliud Owalo as new deputy patron

Deputy Chief of Staff Eliud Owalo has officially been unveiled as the deputy patron of Gor Mahia football club.
Owalo was unveiled on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, by Gor Mahia’s chairperson, Ambrose Rachier, flanked by other party officials recently elected by delegates.
Speaking during the unveiling ceremony, Rachier noted that Owalo was fronted for the position by Gor Mahia fans during the club’s elections on Sunday, April 13, 2025.
He further informed the members that Owalo will help former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who is the club’s patron.
“I, therefore, on behalf of Gor Mahia, announce Eliud Owalo as Deputy Club Patron to assist our patron, Raila Amollo Odinga,” Rachier confirmed on Wednesday, April 16, 2025.

Owalo’s unveiling followed the resignation of former Homa Bay Governor Cyprian Awiti. Rachier announced that Awiti had tendered his resignation due to health concerns.
“It is with a heavy heart that I tender my resignation as deputy patron of Gor Mahia Football Club, effective immediately. After careful reflection and the advice of my doctors, I have come to the difficult decision to step down due to health concerns. Serving this club has been an immense honour, and I will always cherish it,” Awiti’s resignation letter read in part.
“I am proud of the strides we have made during my tenure and the wavering spirit of K’Ogalo,” he added while promising to continue supporting the club.
Owalo accepts the position
Accepting the position, Owalo promised to work with Gor Mahia elected officials led by Rachier, Sally Bollo (vice chairperson), Nick Arum (secretary general), and Gerphas Okuku (honorary treasurer).
He promised to introduce far-reaching reforms at the club, including pushing for the formation of a secretariat and re-engineering the club as they hunt for the 21st title in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL).

His primary role will be supporting Gor Mahia in advancing its agenda both in the football arena and in its corporate front. He will be the club’s supporter, part promoter, who will be called at any time for advice or guidance.
“Having accepted this position, my primary goal is to bring in fresh impetus with a view to re-engineering, rejuvenating, and vitalising the operations of Gor Mahia Football Club so that we can position it as the biggest and most successful club in Africa,” Owalo stated.
