Tusker FC coach Charles Okere has lauded his team’s determination and tactical execution following their crucial 2-0 victory over Murang’a Seal in a Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League clash at Machakos Stadium on Saturday, May 10, 2025.

The victory, secured through goals from Deogratius Ojok and substitute Nashon Balecho, propelled the Brewers to second place in the standings with 55 points, just three behind league leaders Police FC with four matches remaining in the season.

In his post-match remarks, posted on the team’s social media pages on May 11, 2025, Okere asserted that the victory was the product of deliberate planning and hard work on the training ground.

“First of all, I thank God for these three crucial points because we had been longing for getting the maximum points plus a clean sheet. For us, I can say that we planned for the match very well, and I congratulate the boys together with the technical team for the good job,” Okere said.

Ojok opened the scoring in the 12th minute, demonstrating impressive strength to beat three Seal defenders, while Balecho sealed the win with a goal scored almost immediately after coming off the bench in the second half.

Motivation

The win comes at a critical time for Tusker, who had drawn their previous match against AFC Leopards, a result that Okere cited as motivation for Saturday’s performance.

“We laid down a comprehensive plan and discussed that the match against AFC Leopards that we drew here was a motivation for us. Today we discussed that we start from where we left the AFC Leopards match,” the coach explained.

Okere acknowledged the quality of their opponents, describing Murang’a Seal as “a strong side, very tactical team, very resilient,” but credited his team’s strategy and preparation for the positive result.

“It’s not coming by any luck because this is something that we have worked very, very hard in training. So we knew even throughout the week we scored many goals, and this game we decided that we are going to get as many goals as possible,” he emphasised.

Murang’a Seal missed an opportunity to get back into the game when Joe Waithira failed to convert a penalty at the hour mark, skying his attempt and leaving the struggling side in 17th place with 29 points.

Looking ahead

As the league enters its final stretch, Okere is focused on maintaining his team’s momentum despite a congested fixture list.

Before Saturday’s win, Tusker had been on an inconsistent run, managing only one victory in their previous four matches.

“It’s a very tricky situation playing on the weekend, midweek again on the weekend. But again, it needs good planning,” he noted.

Tusker’s next test will come against FC Talanta as they look to keep the pressure on table-toppers Police FC.

“We have a few knocks, but we believe we’ll be fresh for the Talanta game. What’s important now is consistency — defending and attacking as a unit,” he stated.

“For us, we have defended well as a team and attacked well as a team, and even in terms of the transitions, we were very efficient today. So for us, we bring that consistency in the next coming matches,” Okere concluded.
