The Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) has officially announced that the 2025 edition of the highly anticipated Safari 7s tournament will return to Nyayo National Stadium. This confirmation comes at a time when the National Sevens Circuit series is in top gear.

In a statement on Thursday, August 7, 2025, the Kenya Rugby Union stated that the tournament is expected to take place from October 10 to 12, 2025, in Nairobi, adding that it will attract elite rugby sevens teams from across the globe, all vying for the prestigious Robin Cahill Trophy.

”The Safari 7s tournament will be held from 10th to 12th October and will feature age-grade category, Women’s category, and men’s category, as has been the tradition. It is expected to bring in different teams from all over the world competing for the prestigious Robin Cahill Trophy,” KRU said in a statement.

This marks the first time since 2021 that the iconic stadium will host the tournament. That year, Kenya’s Shujaa delighted home fans by clinching the title on familiar turf. After being staged at the Machakos Stadium in 2024, where Shujaa and Costa Blanca Ladies emerged champions in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively, the event now makes its grand return to Nairobi’s historic sports venue.

True to tradition, this year’s Safari 7s will feature three competitive categories: the men’s, women’s, and age-grade divisions. These categories aim to provide a platform for both experienced players and rising talent to showcase their skills on the international stage.

The tournament has long served as a melting pot for rugby sevens excellence, drawing participation from top-tier national and club sides. With Kenya Shujaa defending their title on home soil, anticipation is already building for what promises to be a thrilling spectacle of speed, skill, and sevens flair.

With the ongoing National Sevens Circuit series in the country, it is expected that Shujaa will have a challenge assembling a strong team ahead of the competition.
