National Super League side Michael Olunga Football Academy (MOFA) continues with its signing spree after the acquisition of defensive midfielder Nelson Amunga.

In a statement seen by People Sport on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, MOFA, owned by the Harambee Stars captain Michael Ogada Olunga, confirmed the signing of Amunga from Kisumu All Stars.

The club described their new man as a player who joins the fold with composure in defensive midfield.

”We are happy to welcome Nelson Amunga to MOFA FC! The talented left‑back joins us from Kisumu All Stars, bringing composure and quality to our backline. A proud son of Vihiga County,” the statement read in part.

Michael Olunga Academy (MOFA) is situated in Othoro, Homa Bay County. It nurtures players across the U10 to U18 age groups, and fields a senior side, MOFA FC, that competes in Kenya’s FKF National Super League (NSL), the country’s second tier.

MOFA upgrade

The academy is also undergoing a major upgrade. As of June 2025, its state‑of‑the‑art sports complex is about 60 per cent complete, featuring modern pitches, a fully equipped gym, a borehole, water storage, security systems and training infrastructure that will elevate youth talent development in western Kenya.

MOFA has established mentorship and scholarship partnerships with institutions including Agoro Sare School, St Mary’s School Yala, and Kisumu Day High School, providing educational and football pathways for young athletes.

Reinforcing for next season, MOFA have signed head coach Charles Bruno from Kisumu All Stars and strength and conditioning coach Dick Orongo in the technical department. In his first sentiments after joining MOFA, Bruno revealed that he aims to help the team scale the heights of Kenyan football as he takes over the reins at the club.

“It is a competitive league, and we will be here to compete. It won’t be a walk in the park, and we need to work hard every day,” he said.

“As with any other club, as the league starts, they aim for promotion. We have that as our objective. We know what we have to do: take each game at a time, show up every day, and try to get it done,” he stated.
