NSL review: Naivas open 3-point lead despite draw
Naivas, currently leading the National Super League (NSL), have widened their lead in the league standings by three points after 25 rounds of intense competition.
After being held to a goalless draw by Luanda Villa, Naivas missed the opportunity to extend their lead to five points, as their closest rivals Nairobi United suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Kisumu All Stars.
NSL stumble
Meanwhile, Mathare United also stumbled, settling for a 2-2 draw against Mulembe United.
With 16 wins, five draws, and three losses under their belt, Naivas have exhibited impressive attacking prowess, netting 47 goals while conceding just 16, the least in the league.
The draw for Mathare United in Mumias means they’ve now amassed 50 points from 25 matches, staying just two points behind Naivas in the league table.
Under the guidance of newly appointed coach Francis Kimanzi, the Slum Boys, as they are fondly known, have secured 15 victories, along with five draws and losses each.
Kimanzi, who recently took the helm, will be eager to clinch his first win next weekend as Mathare United goes up against Migori Youth.
Nairobi United, sitting third with 49 points, faced disappointment after their defeat on Saturday. Meanwhile, Mara Sugar, with a game in hand, trail slightly behind with 47 points from 24 matches.
Kisumu Allstars’ recent triumph over Nairobi United propelled them to fifth place in the NSL campaign, boasting 43 points.
Further down the standings, Darajani Gogo has accumulated 39 points, while Luanda Villa and Migori Youth are level on 36 points each.
NSL Bottom half
Coast Stima follow closely behind with 35 points, while Dimba Patriots and Kibera Black Stars share the same tally of 33 points.
Rainbow, with 31 points, and MCF, with 30 points, occupy the mid-table positions. At the bottom of the league table, Kajiado and Mulembe United are tied with 21 points, while Silibwet languishes at the very bottom.
