Naivas optimistic ahead of new NSL season despite player departures
Naivas Football Club Chief Executive Officer Moses Kamau has expressed confidence in the team’s preparations ahead of the upcoming National Super League (NSL) season, noting significant improvements compared to last year’s sluggish start.
Kamau revealed that the club had moved swiftly to scout and assemble a competitive squad early enough, with recruits already integrated into the training camp alongside returning players.
“This season, the players that we had scouted and selected earlier on are already in the camp training with the rest of the team,” Kamau shared with People Sport on Monday, August 3, 2025 , emphasising the importance of early preparation in building team chemistry.
However, the CEO admitted that the club is set to lose a few players whose contracts have expired, acknowledging that some will be moving on to other teams. “Yeah, we will lose a few players to other teams after their contracts have expired,” he added.
It is reported that Justus Akweya has left the National Super League side for the Football Kenya Federation Premier League outfit Shabana FC. Markvivan Kesa has also left the camp of Naivas to join another FKF Premier League club Kariobangi Sharks.
Last season reflection
Reflecting on the previous season, Kamau attributed the team’s inconsistent start to multiple challenges, including delayed preparation, difficulties in player adaptation, and questionable officiating. Naivas had assembled a strong team for the National Super League duties, but eventually gave up the Premier League promotion race to eventual champions Nairobi United and APS Bomet.
“Last season, we did not catch up properly because we started the season at a slower pace. Our players were struggling to fit into the system properly, and we also had cases of poor officiating against us,” he said.
Naivas look set to pick up from where they left off last season. The team will be seeking to bounce back strong with the Premier League promotion in sight. According to Kmau, the team is looking to make a stronger impression this time around, hoping that early groundwork and better planning will help them mount a more serious challenge in the NSL, as they eye a potential promotion to the top tier.
