Nairobi City Stars and FC Talanta relegated from FKF Premier League

Nairobi City Stars and FC Talanta have officially been relegated from the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League following a difficult 2024/25 season.
“Nairobi City Stars and FC Talanta have been relegated from the FKF Premier League. Posta Rangers are in the playoff spot and will face Naivas FC to fight for their position in the league,” FKF Premier League posted on their X account on Sunday, June 22, 2025.
The two Nairobi-based sides failed to secure enough points to remain in the top flight, bringing an end to their campaigns in the FKF Premier League. Their demotion means they will compete in the second-tier National Super League (NSL) next season.
Simba wa Nairobi battled to a goalless draw on Sunday, June 22, 2025, against Mathare United at Thika Stadium, ending the season with 35 points and a -15 goal difference, a result that all but confirmed the end of their five-year stay in the top flight. On the same day, FC Talanta suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Murang’a Seal at the SportPesa Arena, also finishing the season with 35 points but with a slightly better goal difference of -13.
Meanwhile, Posta Rangers, who also ended the campaign with 35 points and a -13 goal difference, managed to avoid direct relegation after having scored more goals than FC Talanta. They now have a second chance to remain in the top division and will face Naivas FC, who finished third in the National Super League, in a crucial promotion/relegation playoff.
Kenya Police crowned champions
At the top of the table, Kenya Police FC made history by winning their first-ever FKF Premier League title. The team beat Shabana FC 1-0 on June 15, 2025, at Machakos Stadium to seal the championship with one match to spare.
Police entered the match with 61 points and needed just a draw to secure the title, but their win pushed them to an unbeatable 64 points. Their closest rivals, Gor Mahia and Tusker, could no longer catch up. The win also secured Kenya Police a place in the CAF Champions League next season, marking their debut on the continental stage.

Nairobi United, APS Bomet earn promotion
While City Stars and Talanta head down, Nairobi United and APS Bomet FC are heading up. Nairobi United were crowned NSL champions on 14 June 2025 after beating MOFA 1-0 at Mamboleo Stadium in Kisumu.
This win followed an emphatic 7-1 victory over SS Assad earlier on 8 June, and a 2-1 promotion-sealing win over 3K FC on 23 May. Their success this season was not limited to the league. Nairobi United also had a strong run in the Mozzart Bet Cup, knocking out Premier League sides like Tusker, KCB, and Kakamega Homeboyz.
APS Bomet, who finished second in the NSL, also secured automatic promotion and will join Nairobi United in the top flight for the 2025/26 FKF Premier League season.
While the relegation of City Stars and Talanta marks the end of an era for both sides, it opens a new chapter for Nairobi United and APS Bomet as they prepare to compete at the highest level. The spotlight now shifts to the Posta Rangers vs Naivas FC playoff, which will determine the final team to feature in next season’s Premier League.
