The Interior Cabinet Secretary, Kipchumba Murkomen, has been appointed the new patron of APS Bomet FC, a newly promoted team to the FKF Kenya Premier League.

The appointment follows a request by Deputy Inspector General (Administration Police Service), Gilbert Masengeli, which Murkomen accepted with enthusiasm.

“I’m honoured to be the new Patron of APS Bomet FC, who are newly promoted to the FKF Kenya Premier League,” said Murkomen.

“I thank the DIG-APS Gilbert Masengeli for requesting me to take up the role, an offer I readily accepted in appreciation of the team’s incredible competitive spirit and the unmatched passion of their fan base,” he added.

Murkomen made the remarks on Friday, June 27, 2025, during a graduation ceremony at the Border Police Training Campus in Kanyonyo, Kitui County, where he also met members of the team.

He pledged full government support to help the club succeed in the top-tier league.

“We will support the team to make an impact in the Kenya Premier League by improving their training facilities, equipment, and mobility, and meeting other requirements,” he stated.

“This team symbolises unity, discipline, and the untapped potential of our youth.”

Police talent nurturing

Established in 2014, APS Bomet FC is composed of 14 uniformed police officers and 15 civilian players from different parts of the country. Murkomen highlighted the team’s composition as a model of community integration and cooperation.

“This is the kind of police-civilian cooperation we would like to promote in our communities,” he added.

The team recently earned promotion to the Premier League after finishing second in the National Super League. Murkomen expressed confidence in their ability to thrive, citing recent successes by other police-backed teams.

“The team promised to win the league in four years, and following the victory of Kenya Police FC and the Kenya Police Bullets FC this season, it’s achievable,” he noted.

Murkomen also promised to lobby President William Ruto to meet the team and assist in securing a team bus to ease transportation challenges.

Club Chairman Bishop Fred Akama, speaking on behalf of the players, affirmed the team’s commitment to excellence, vowing that APS Bomet FC would lift the Premier League title within four years.

The club’s CEO, Chief Inspector Rose Chemutai, was also present and lauded for her leadership in transforming the club from a grassroots initiative into a competitive league contender.
