Tanzanian boxer Karim “Mtu Kazi” Mandonga has dropped yet another bombshell in Nairobi, saying he will beat the living daylights out of Kenya’s Daniel Wanyonyi in the return heavyweight fight at Sarit Expo Centre in Westlands on July 22.

Known for his swagger since beating Wanyonyi on slip points in the introductory bout at Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) last January, Mandonga vowed to knock out Wanyonyi in the first round that will highlight several undercards involving both local and foreign boxers, all lasting six rounds.

“Huyu ni wa kupigwa tu.  Amekuwea mteja wangu tangu tukutane na sioni akimaliza raundi ya kwanza. (This is a person who can always be beaten. He has become my customer since we met and I don’t see him lasting the first round,” said Mandonga in a heated banter with Wanyonyi at the weekend.

The Pugilistic Syndicate of Tanzania (PST) light heavyweight champion even had the audacity to taunt Wanyonyi that he can also beat him even if the bout was to be held in Gikomba apparently where the Kenyan ekes out a living selling second hand shoes.

“Hata kama ulingo utawekwa Gikomba nitamcharaza . Naomba mashabiki waje kwa wingi washuhudie ninayosema,’’

“Even if the ring was put up in Gikomba I would still beat him. I urge fans to turn up in large number and bear witness what I’m trying to put across,’’ said Mandonga who beat Uganda’s Kenneth Lukyamuzi in a split decision to claim the PST title.

Mandonga even went further to depreciate Wanyonyi’s win over Uganda’s Charles Kakande in a light heavyweight contest on March 26 in Nairobi, saying he was pitted against an ‘old’ pugilist.

But in a swift rejoinder, Wanyonyi said: “My first loss was as a result of short notice. I had not trained enough due to COVID-19 restrictions but now that I’m fit, it will be total disaster for Mandonga in the ring whether he likes it or not,” said the former World Boxing Federation (WBF) champion.

Kenya Professional Boxing Commission (KPBC) President Reuben Ndolo said the have yet to decide as to whether Wanyonyi will defend his world turtle belt during the fight or it will be an opportunity forv  Mandonga to safeguard his PST title.

Ndolo used the firumk to laud Sarit Expo center for availing the facility which he described as a step forward to giving young boxers an a chance to showcase their skills.

“I Hope the Sarit Expo will be another Las Vegas moving forward. We want Kenyan boxing to return to it lost glory and I cannot thank Sarit Expo enough for being steadfast in helping realize this dream,” said Ndolo.

The KBC boss announced that public service vehicles will be available at strategic places within the Nairobi Central District (NCBD) to ferry fans will be available to ferry boxing fans to and from Westlands for the fights.
