Local golfer Japheth Momanyi maintained excellent form at the weekend to secure a decisive victory in the Kenya Railway Golf Club’s Chairman Jonathan Marucha prize.

The tournament received sponsorship from CPF Group, Madison Insurance, Capex Life Assurance, Absa, Laser Insurance Brokers and Friends of the Chairman.

A total of 303 golfers took part in the event held on Friday and Saturday, which was part of a weeklong celebration for Marucha’s tenure in office. Momanyi, who played off a handicap of eight, had an outstanding weekend after also winning the Clubnite on Thursday, a segment of the Chairman’s festivities.

He assured the host that he would claim the main prize and fulfilled that promise, finishing with an impressive total of 41 stableford points to capture the prestigious title.

Despite being sidelined by a shoulder injury, Momanyi’s determination to achieve victory upon his return was relentless.

“I promised the chairman that I would win this prize for him. I am pleased to have kept my word,” he stated.

“I was on fire and could sense it as I headed to the course. My drives and putting were precise, and the score was satisfying as well,” he continued.

During the presentation dinner, Marucha passed on various course maintenance equipment and a children’s TV room to incoming chairman Nathan Njuguna, marking his legacy at the club where he has served in multiple roles.

The men’s winner was Geoffrey Yego, who achieved a commendable score of 38 stableford points, edging out George Moturi, also with 38 stableford points.

Larry Asego earned the third prize in the men’s category with a score of 37 stableford points.

Among the ladies, Ruth Wanyonyi claimed the title of Lady winner with 37 stableford points, while Nyaboke Omwansa took the second prize for the ladies with a score of 35 stableford points.

In the past Chairmen category, Timothy Ruiru excelled with 31 stableford points while playing off a respectable handicap of 8.
