Michael Olunga Foundation Academy (MOFA) have parted ways with Head Coach Kassim Otieno after missing out on promotion to the National Super League.

People Daily has learnt that the coach has also parted ways with the club together with his assistant Gaddy Omondi after their loss to Fortune Sacco. Kassim Junior as he is populary referred to joined the side from NSL side Gusii FC.

MOFA had managed to slip into the playoffs even after losing to APS Bomet on the final day of the regular season, capitalizing on a stumble by Compel FC who went down to St. Joseph FC by a solitary goal on the final day

MOFA heavy defeat

Fortune defeated MOFA 3-0 at Dandora Stadium, marking the end of their promotion dreams to the second tier after three years.

With Otieno and Omondi out, the club will head into preseason and the new season with a different coaching staff.

MOFA had a good run in the FKF Division One Zone B, finishing second on the log with 55 points after playing 29 matches, winning 16, and drawing seven.

The Homa Bay based side boasted of the best attack, scoring 46 goals while conceding 19. Most of their wins came at home, where they collected 11 wins, four draws, and only one loss for 37 points. At home, they scored 34 goals and conceded only eight in 16 matches.

This performance gave Michael Olunga, the founder, hopes of seeing his side triumph at Dandora Stadium, just as he did with Liberty Academy in 2012, but that was not the case.

“12 years ago at Dandora Stadium, I scored the crucial goal that won Liberty Academy the Nairobi County League. This Saturday, my academy MOFA will be playing FKF National Division One playoffs at the same venue. Come support our boys,” Olunga rallied the side before the match.

MOFA tough encounter

MOFA faced a tough test against Fortune, coached by Michael Otimong, who joined the club in February 2024. Otimong led the side in 11 games, securing seven wins, three draws, and suffering just one loss.

Despite a strong start to the match which saw them come dangerously close to opening the scoring, it was Fortune who capitalised on the massive experience within their ranks to secure a spot in the NSL next season.

In this run, he guided the side to score 27 goals, concede only three, and keep eight clean sheets out of the 11 matches he was in charge of.

Fortune, under Otimong, have not conceded a home goal in the league campaign this season.
