Harambee Stars striker Michael Olunga showcased his return to form by scoring a goal in their match against Al-Wakrah, despite their 2-1 loss in the 17th round of the Qatar Stars League held at Al-Janoub Stadium.

This marked Olunga’s second goal since his return from injury, which had sidelined him since December when he suffered a hamstring injury during an Asian Champions League match against Persepolis.

With this goal, Olunga extended his lead as the top scorer for Al Duhail, having now scored 10 goals in 17 rounds of the Qatar Stars League.

The first half of the match saw Al-Duhail dominating, controlling the midfield and applying pressure on Al-Wakrah’s defence.

Olunga capitalized on a defensive failure to clear the lines to score the opening goal in the 25th minute.

Despite Al-Wakrah’s attempts to equalize, goalkeeper Shihab Al-Laythi and the Al-Duhail defence held firm until halftime, maintaining their one-goal lead.

Michael Olunga miss

In the second half, Al-Duhail aimed to secure a second goal, but Olunga missed a clear opportunity. Eventually, Al-Wakrah managed to equalize through a goal from Khaled Ali in the 61st minute.

In the dying minutes of the game, Al-Wakrah secured victory with a header from Mohammed bin Yatou, sealing the 2-1 win.

The loss halted Al Duhail’s points tally at 19, highlighting the need for further improvement in their upcoming matches.
