Posta Rangers jumped from 10th  to the eighth position in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier league after a laboured 1-0 win over Bidco United in an exciting clash at Tusker ground in Ruaraka yesterday.

It was an otherwise balanced game before the mailmen made all the difference when journeyman Timothy Otieno poked home from a tight angle after outwitting his markers.

The victory was Rangers’ second on a trot after they prevailed 3-2 over Nairobi City Stars in a five-goal thriller last weekend with Otieno was one of the marksmen.

At Police Sacco Stadium in South “C”, Kakamega Hmeboyz came from a goal down and held onto their own to beat Kariobangi Sharks 1-0.

Sharks’ frontline was enterprising in the early moments and they duly took the lead in the 9th minute through Leone Otieno’s strike before the defense crumbled thus giving leeway for Homeboyz to make a remarkable comeback which yielded their three goals.

Following the win, Abana Abeingo has catapulted from the eleventh to the tenth position in the log with 32 points from 24 matches played.

At Mbaraki sports ground, Gor Mahia’s talismanic striker Benson Omalla ended a three-match goal drought with a brace and in the process stretched his tally to 21 strikes thus far in the campaign as the multiple league champions’ humbled wasteful Bandari 2-1.

Omala found himself unmarked in the six-yard box three minutes after the breather to fire at the near post past glove man Michael Wanyika a few minutes after Bandar’s Umaru Kasumba’s blockbuster was palmed away  by Gor custodian Gad Matthews.

In the  61st minute, Omalla latched onto a free kick by Dennis Ng’ang’a to grab yet another beauty with Bandari making more futile attempts at K’ogalo’s goalmouth.

Rodgers Aloro would then be unlucky not to score for Bandari in the 74th st minute when his free kick was cleared by Philemon Otieno moments after his teammate William Wadri was denied by Matthews.

Bandari put efforts to pull the game out of the fire by introducing James Kinyanjui for Douglas Mokaya and got their face-saving goal through Andrew Juma’s indirect free kick.

In Muhoroni, Nzoia’s surge towards reclaiming the league lead continued in an emphatic 3-0 win over Wazito with John Mwangi, Yasin Sije and Kevin Juma all on target.

Cup holders Tusker were also successful as they eclipsed Mathare United 2-0, Rodgers Ouma scoring the two goals in a quick burst in the 61st and 67th minutes.

In the meantime, Sofapaka will be going flat out to make amends after the 2-0 defeat by Tusker last week when they engage Ulinzi Stars at Police Sacco Stadium in South “C”, Nairobi, in one of three midweek fixtures programmed for today.

Although the match is expected to be quite intense for Batoto Ba Mungu, the team’s Head Coach Davis Ouma has stated that they are not overawed and are itching to correct their infirmity.

“As much as the result hurt, it was a case of being as positive as possible and we have since treated it as a bygone. I had a pep talk with the players after the defeat and they were all in unison that improvement in today’s game against Ulinzi is inevitable.  We hope to get our act right pretty fast,” offered Ouma.

The former Harambee Starlets coach is expected to keep faith on Evans Maliachi, Sebastien Sunday and Steven Okolla in the striking line with skipper David Nshimirimana leading the rearguard to ensure that goalkeeper Simon Masaka is not exposed to Ulinzi’s dangerous strikers including Enos Ochieng’,  Masita Masuta and Boniface Muchiri.

At Nyayo National Stadium, FC Talanta have no choice but try to inflict sweet revenge on AFC Leopards who mercilessly thrashed them 6-0  in the first leg on February 8 at Kasarani Annex.

Talanta, who were then facing acute financial problems that have since been fixed, will have to keep in check Ingwe international midfielder Victor Omune who was the destroyer-in-chief on the fateful evening when he scored four goals and in the process was gifted with the match ball.

In a late kick off at Police Sacco Stadium, KCB will come up against relegation-threatened Vihiga Bullets, hoping to win to catch up with the league frontrunners Gor Mahia and Tusker.
