Mathare confirms more additions ahead of Gor Mahia clash

Kenyan Premier League side Mathare United have confirmed the signing of John Junior Nyawir ahead of the second half of the league season.
The Slumboys have confirmed the signing coming after a mass exodus witnessed recently at the club.
“Mathare United is delighted to announce the signing of winger John Junior Nyawir from NSL side SamWest Blackboots. The offensive wizard has committed to the club for the next two and a half years,” a club statement read.
Gor Mahia raided
Nyawir is the second player to join John Kamau’s fold from Gor Mahia.
Peter Oudu was announced as the club’s first midseason acquisition on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.
The Dagoretti high school alumnus linked up with head coach John Kamau, whom he briefly played under while at school and as a pro at Posta Rangers.
According to the club, Nyawir brings a wealth of experience to the side as a former PL winner during his stint at Gor. Nyawir spent a sizeable stint with Kenyan giants Gor Mahia, breaking into the senior team under then-coach Vaz Pinto en route to his two Premier League title successes.
The arrivals are a massive boost for the club as it prepares for a decisive clash against Gor on Saturday, February 8, 2025, in Dandora.
The 2008 KPL champions had earlier announced the departure of four of its former contingent ahead of the second half of the 2024/25 season.
Versatile midfielder Kevin Kimani highlighted the outbound moves that also included Chris Koloti to return to AFC Leopards, his parent club. Hakim Msami and Christian Lubulu.

“Kevin Kimani, Chris Koloti, Hakim Msami and Christian Lubulu will not be part of the squad for the remainder of the season. Kimani and Koloti, who were on loan from AFC Leopards, have been allowed to return to their parent club,” the club’s statement read in part.
Stuttering Slumboys
Following their promotion to the top flight, the Slumboys have endured a run of mixed fortunes and currently sit 14th on the log.
The club is on a stuttering streak with a single win in their last six games. The 1-0 win over Shabana in December was the team’s last league win. They have slumped to two defeats and three draws in the time frame.
