Malkia Strikers drop 3 players ahead of African Volleyball Championship
Three more players have been clipped from the Kenya women’s volleyball team, Malkia Strikers, preparing for the upcoming FIVB Women’s World Championship in Thailand.
The Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) on Monday, August 4, 2025, confirmed the development while revealing that the team proceeded to a residential camp at a hotel in Nairobi.
The competition will run from Friday, August 22, 2025, to Monday, September 7, 2025.
“The dropped players are regular Kenya Pipeline opposite hitter Loice Simiyu, Kenya Prisons libero Delphine Misoki, and KCB Women’s Volleyball Team middle blocker Pauline Chemutai,” a statement from the KVF read.
According to KVF, a further purge of the playing unit will be undertaken in due course to achieve the requisite 14-member team squad.
The final squad will proceed to an international friendly event scheduled for Friday, August 15, 2025, in Vietnam before the start of the global showpiece in Bangkok.
“A provisional squad of 17 players are in camp, and the number will be whittled down to 14 prior to the team’s departure to Vietnam on August 14 for a couple of friendly matches,” its statement continued.

The trio’s exit comes after nine players were demoted from the initial 29-woman team that had been undergoing non-residential training at the Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi on Friday, July 25, 2025.
The casualties then included Kenya Defence Forces’ setter, Vallerie Chepkoech, and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations’ Vivian Vugutsa.
Libero Peninah Wafula and Kenya Prisons Sharon Sandui, who had been nursing an injury picked up during the Kenya Cup semifinal match against KCB Women’s Volleyball Team were also axed.
With the exits, the jostling for the final slot is set to heat up as remaining players seek to impress the team under the guidance of Kenya Pipeline coach Geoffrey Omondi.
