The Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, is bracing for a charged atmosphere on August 22, 2025, as Kenya’s Harambee Stars prepare to take on Madagascar in the quarterfinals of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).

Kick-off is scheduled for 5:00 PM EAT, and the build-up has seen a wave of goodwill messages and support from national leaders, sports officials, and fans alike.

Leaders show solidarity

Deputy Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua has confirmed he will attend the match in person, underscoring the importance of the event not only as a sporting contest but also as a unifying national moment.

Speaking ahead of the clash, Gachagua said, “I am honored to join Harambee Stars and their incredible fans at Kasarani today. This match is more than a game—it’s a chance to showcase Kenya’s unity and talent. Let’s roar them to victory.”

His presence is expected to lift the team’s morale as they fight for a place in the semifinals.

Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga also shared her excitement with supporters, posting on X: “It’s Match Day! Wishing Harambee Stars all the very best during this crucial match! See you all at our Fan Zone at the Lakefront Amphitheater! #HarambeeStars.” Wanga’s call reflects a community-driven approach that encourages Kenyans to rally together in support of the national team.

Federation calls for responsible support

Football Kenya Federation President Hussein Mohammed reminded fans of their vital role in boosting the team’s performance. “A big day for @Harambee__Stars and our nation. All the best to our Men’s National Team as they face Madagascar in the #CHAN2024 quarterfinal at Kasarani, 5PM. To our fans—your support remains their greatest strength. Let’s fill the stadium early, cheer responsibly, and stand united,” he said. Mohammed further emphasized the need for discipline in the stands, warning against actions that could attract sanctions from the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Gor Mahia FC also lent its voice of encouragement to its players representing the national team. “Our boys – Austin, Sylvester, Stanley, and Siraj – the pride of Kenya is on their shoulders. Go get it, boys! All the best to Harambee Stars… Madagascar must fall! #Sirkal,” the club posted.

Focus on fan safety

Interior Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo, assured fans of safe viewing experiences across the country. He announced that fan zones have been established in major public spaces, including Uhuru Park and Jacaranda Grounds in Nairobi, where Kenyans can gather to watch the game. “Come early, enjoy responsibly, and let us make this a celebration of both football and national pride,” he said.
