Western region champions Musingu High School on Friday, August 1, 2025, stormed the Kenyan Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) nationals soccer ball games finals after a hard-fought win over defending champions Highway School.

The Scorpions summoned a resurgent spirit to edge the Nairobi representatives 3-2 in a clash at the Mumias Sports Complex to advance to the finals.

Brendan Mwinamo will now face off against familiar rival, St. Joseph’s Boys High School, in the National Finals on Saturday, August 2, 2025.

The team skippered by Annan Okumu, the younger brother of Kenyan international Joseph Okumu, showed their edge in style, twice coming from the doldrums to edge their nemesis via a decisive own goal.

The Nairobi side was first on the scoreboard from a well-taken Rial Beliew’s effort that left the Musingu keeper well beaten. They did not last long, as Marvin Ashiundu pulled the trailing team back on level terms just before the breather.

A resilient Highway proved far from done and restored their lead in the final half through an impressive Rial, who turned creator to Devilion Otonglo as Beldine Odemba took the lead again.

Kelvin Mukaramoja ensured that the Scorpions remained in the tie after hitting back for the Scorpions’ second goal in the clash.

The match’s clincher came in the final ten minutes after Highway’s defender inadvertently turned home a low cross to an anticlimactic end for the defending champions.

With the win, Musingu now angles for a final clash against St. Joseph’s Boys in the national finals.

The versatile Kitale lads, popularly known as JOBO, earned their place in the final after a 3-0 thrashing of Nyanza’s representatives, Agai High School.

JOBO’s goals were scored by the striking pair of Mwalati and Kiboi, with red-hot Instine Simiyu wrapping up the score to exert the dominance of the western-based school.

In to the finals

The Trans Nzoia School, which edged St. Anthony’s Kitale as the new region’s champions, showed early intent, coasting to a two-goal cushion at the break.

The team held on to their perfect start despite Agai threatening to hit back in the final half that remained a tense exchange.

Simiyu’s well-taken effort put the clash beyond Agai as JOBO stormed the final of the National Games.

Meanwhile, despite the defeat, Agai, who reigned supreme in the Nyanza championship, secured their place in the upcoming FEASSA games set for Kakamega County in August.

The team joins fellow semifinalist, Highway, among the teams to have secured qualification for the upcoming FEASSA Games.
