Kenya sprints coach Dennis Mwanzo bitten by a dog in India
Kenya’s sprints coach Dennis Mwanzo is undergoing treatment in New Delhi after he was bitten by a dog during routine training sessions at the 2025 Para World Championships on Friday, October 3, 2025.
The tactician narrated that he was bitten by the animal while taking one of the female athletes in training sessions. Mwanzo further confirmed that he underwent medical procedures and he is in stable condition.
”We were in the middle of our warm-up for the 200m with sprinter Stacey Obonyo. As I led Staicy through blocks, I sensed a grip on my calf. I thought it was a person, but turning back, I realised it was a black and white dog in colour already bitten me,” Mwanzo narrated.
”I have been attended to, I am not in a bad condition because I have been treated for tetanus and rabies because we were not sure if the dog had been vaccinated,” he added.
However, the Games organisers confirmed that dog catchers were called inside the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi on Friday morning, October 3, 2025, to contain the situation.
The World Para Athletics Championships 2025 is a para-athletics meet organised by the World Para Athletics, the respective sport branch of the International Paralympic Committee.
The event is the 12th edition of the competition going on at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi, from Saturday, September 27, 2025, to Sunday, October 5, 2025, in India.
The logo and mascot for the 2025 edition were unveiled on June 20, 2025. The mascot, named Viraaj, is a spirited young elephant with a blade prosthesis – is a tribute to strength, optimism, and resilience, while the logo captures India’s rich heritage, the spirit of Para athletics, and the vibrancy of New Delhi as host city.
Participating athletes are given a classification depending on their disabilities (T denotes track events, and F denotes field events). They are categorised into seven different classifications.
Dennis Mwanzo and the Kenyan team are scheduled to return home on Monday, October 6, 2025.
