Kenya Police sign Tanzanian forward

By , January 24, 2024

Football Kenya Federation Premier League side Kenya Police have signed Tanzanian forward Rashid Mchelenga.

Mchelenga has arrived at the South C-based club after inking a deal that saw him join from Pamba Jiji FC. This deal finally materialized after the attacker trained with Kenya Police last year before the contract talks broke down.

Mchelenga’s arrival is set to help Kenya Police become an even more lethal side in front of goal. Although they have witnessed a resurgence since Salim Babu took over the technical bench reigns, they have yet to get a sharp striker like Elvis Rupia, the league’s top scorer last season.

Mfungaji mabao Rashid Mchelenga. Amejiunga na jeshi la polisi. Karibu nyumbani Chiddy,” Kenya Police said in a statement.

The forward played for Mbeya City before joining Pemba in the second tier in his homeland.

He has arrived at the Premier League side at a time when Tito Okello has started to shine, and that means he will face stiff competition for a starting XI slot. The presence of Clinton Kinanga also means the competition will be more stiff in the striking department.

Other signings

Mchelenga’s arrival comes after the confirmation of Duncan Otieno’s signing in the ongoing transfer window. The former AFC Leopards defensive midfielder signed for Kenya Police after his stint with Gaborone United of Botswana.

Samuel Onyango, a former Ulinzi Stars player and Gor Mahia forward, has also been signed in a bid to add more firepower to the team. Onyango is an experienced star who is a Premier League winner with K’Ogalo, and Kenya Police hope to tap into that as they aim to build a competitive side.
