Kenya Cup: Prisons down DCI to finish third

Kenya Prisons Queens have pipped the Directorate of Criminal Investigation to a podium finish following a win over the sleuths in the third-place playoff tie on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at the Kasarani Indoor Arena.

The Wardens dominated in the first three sets to claim the needed win after a semifinal defeat at the hands of KCB.

The fourth-placed team in the 2025 KVF started off well against the finalist of the same competition, winning the opening set 25-15.

They stretched the advantage, winning the second set 25-13, before slamming the door on the Investigators with a remarkable 25-19 win.

Prison was forced to contend with a place in the third-place play-off after going down to KCB in the semifinal stage.

In a battle that saw Josp Barasa’s team come close yet too far. The side failed to make count of their strong start, succumbing to KCB’s resilience late on.

Prisons started off the tie remarkably, going for the jugular early on to claim the first two sets on a 25-18 and 25-23 scoreline.

Bankers down Prison

Josp Barasa’s team was, however, pegged back after a startled Bankers team responded in the third set with an easy 25-18.

The team extended the victory to the fourth set on a 25-22 win to tie the game at 2-2 at the conclusion of the fourth set and set up a decisive fifth.

A spirited display in the decisive set saw Bankers complete the conquest, romping to a 15-4 win to seal the game.

The club’s bounce-back win not only sealed a treasured victory over their rivals but also a revenge against a side that eliminated them in the Kenya Volleyball Federation’s playoff finals in May.

Prize Money

The club has additionally earned Ksh100,000 as the competition’s bronze medalist.

Patrick Siang’s Sleuths, on their part, take home Ksh75,000 for their efforts as the fourth-placed team.

The foregoing comes as action shifts to the cup final pitting KCB against Kenya Pipeline.

The high-stakes encounter will see the two elite volleyball sides take to the court with plenty at stake, including the volleyball bragging rights and financial reward.

The inaugural competition winner will pocket Ksh300,000 in prize money, with runners-up earning Ksh200,000 for their efforts.
