KCB Rugby were crowned the 2025 National 7s Circuit champions after a dramatic win over Strathmore Leos in the Dala 7s quarterfinals in Kisumu on Sunday, September 14, 2025.

The bankers edged the Leos 15-14, a result that not only booked them a semifinal spot but also guaranteed them enough points to clinch the overall title.

This is KCB’s fifth National 7s Circuit crown, adding to their successes in 2013, 2014, 2019, and 2023. The bankers now hold the outright record, moving ahead of Kenya Harlequin, Impala RFC, and Mwamba RFC, who have each lifted the title four times.

Sunday’s quarterfinal clash carried extra weight. Strathmore had beaten KCB twice earlier this season, at the Prinsloo 7s and Embu 7s. The Leos looked on course again when they led 14-10 in the dying moments. But George Ooro, a former Strathmore player, struck late to score his second try of the match and hand KCB a 15-14 win.

The victory pushed KCB’s tally to at least 119 points, an unreachable mark for their closest challengers. The team have already collected titles at the Christies, Kabeberi, and Driftwood 7s this season.

Rivals set final stage

After sealing the overall crown, KCB turned their focus to the Dala 7s semifinals. They came from behind to beat Daystar Falcons 19-5, with tries from Stephen Osumba, Floyd Wabwire, and Ooro. The result set up a familiar final against Kabras RFC.

Kabras had earlier edged Menengai Oilers 14-10 in the Rai Derby. William Mwanji and Patrick Odhiambo touched down, with Rayvone Ambale converting both tries for a 14-0 lead. Oilers fought back in the second half but could not break Kabras’ defence.

The Dala 7s final will now pit the two dominant forces of Kenyan sevens against each other. Kabras are chasing their second straight Dala crown, while KCB will look to cap their record-breaking season with another tournament victory.

Elsewhere, Nakuru RFC beat Strathmore Leos 12-7 to claim fifth place, while Mwamba RFC edged Nondescripts 21-19. Catholic Monks and Impala RFC advanced to the Challenge Trophy final, and MMUST RFC joined hosts Kisumu RFC in the 13th-place decider.
