Kariobangi Sharks run riot, dim Posta Rangers’ title dream
Kariobangi Sharks managed a huge 5-1 Football Kenya Federation Kenya Premier League win over Posta Rangers on Sunday, March 10, 2024.
This is a huge blow for Rangers’ title dream, as the big defeat means they have ceded some ground in the race, especially after their previous loss to Gor Mahia.
The dominant Sharks broke the deadlock in the 15th minute when Julius Masaba found the back of the net.
Bernard Jairo pulled off a massive save when he denied Rangers’ Brian Marita some minutes after the deadlock was broken. There were more first-half chances for the Mailmen, but Christopher Oruchum and Patrick Otieno failed to find the back of the net with them.
Masaba scored the second goal for Sharks in the 49th minute after he was set through on goal by John Makwatta. The former AFC Leopards forward got himself a slot on the scoresheet when he scored the third goal just minutes before the hour mark.
The scoreline would have been bigger had Fortune Omotto scored with a glorious chance three minutes after the hour mark.
More goals
Sharks continued to run riot, and in the 65th minute, Leonlevit Otieno scored the fourth goal for the Eastlands side, with Makwatta providing the assist again.
Despite being overpowered and in a total state of confusion, Rangers almost claimed a goal three minutes before the end of regulation time, but Ojiambo, after he was set through on goal by Dincken Mwema, failed to find the target.
The fifth goal for Sharks came at the stroke of stoppage time when Fortune Omotto found the back of the net.
Finally, Rangers managed to deny the Sharks a clean sheet when Brian Otieno scored in injury time.
