Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has publicly expressed his pride in Harambee Stars, following their impressive start at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024.

“We are very proud of #HarambeeStars. Go for it!” Kalonzo wrote on his X account on Sunday, August 3, 2025.

His brief but powerful message quickly gained traction among fans and leaders alike, as Kenyans rallied behind the national team during their CHAN opener against the Democratic Republic of Congo at Kasarani Stadium.

The Stars’ 1-0 lead, secured by a first-half goal from Austin Odhiambo, ignited a wave of patriotic support both online and offline. Kalonzo’s post came at a time when the team was enjoying strong momentum, further boosting the players’ morale.

Several political figures, including President William Ruto, have also shown support for the national team. Ruto earlier announced hefty cash rewards to motivate the players, pledging Ksh600 million if Kenya wins CHAN 2024 and Ksh1 million per win per player.

Unity behind Harambee Stars

Kalonzo’s message adds to a growing list of high-profile endorsements, underlining how sport continues to unite Kenyans across political and social divides.

Kalonzo Musyoka, a former Vice President and long-time public servant, has often used his platform to support national causes. His latest show of solidarity reflects the growing excitement as Kenya seeks to make history at CHAN 2024.

Head coach Benni McCarthy, who took charge of the national team in March, has had to make bold decisions amid notable absences. Key forwards Moses Shumah and Emmanuel Osoro moved abroad, while rising star Mohamed Bajaber transferred to Tanzania’s Simba SC. Injuries to Pamba Swaleh and Brian Musa added to the selection woes. Yet McCarthy’s trust in Odhiambo and others in his youthful squad has paid early dividends.

Harambee Stars will face Morocco, Angola, and Zambia in Group A, with hopes of advancing to the knockout stages.
